Get away from the hustle and bustle of Kota Kinabalu City and head to Borneo Momogun Spice (BMS) located in Kg. Pogunon, Penampang. Opened in November 2017, the Borneo Momogun Spice takes about 9 minutes’ drive (5.6 kilometres) from Donggongon Town and about 30 minutes’ drive from KK City.
The Borneo Momogun Spice partners have seen how the foreigner promote their traditional food, and this became an interest for them to promote our authentic food.
BMS offers a wide array of traditional food and beverages originating from the island of Borneo. The two-storey restaurant brings a nostalgic feeling with rich colours of Sabah’s culture. The partners of the restaurant aim to preserve the authenticity of Borneo cuisines as well as to explore and discover more mouth-watering delights.
The restaurant features traditional Kadazandusun cuisine where you can choose from the Momogun set menu: Manuk ‘Bakakuk’ (Chicken), Daging Sapi Tuhau (Beef) or Sada’ Tulod Ulod (Fish); that were designed by the award-winning chef Justin Rondihon Stimol (Masterchef Asia 2016 – 2018).
With their own unique tastes, all dishes are the perfect comfort food, especially for the locals.
Manuk ‘Bakakuk’ is marinated in bambangan and lemongrass gravy. Bambangan is a type of wild mango that comes with a distinctive and citrusy smell. It is normally harvested raw to be pickled using salt mixed with grated bambangan seed and slices of chilli.
Want to try something heavier? Try the Daging Sapi Tuhau dish! Originating from the interior parts of Sabah, (namely Tambunan, Keningau and Ranau), tuhau makes a great condiment and for some, it can tickle your tastebuds!
The Sada’ Tulod Ulod is a must-try for fish-lovers! The fish is soaked with flavoursome gravy made from local herbs.
All dishes are served with steamed hill rice, local vegetables, a bowl of healthy chicken soup, and an array of condiments like the traditional Hinava, Tuhau, Bambangan, and belacan for the ulam-ulam. Whet your appetite with one of the most well-known traditional dishes in Sabah!
Apart from Momogun set menu, the restaurant also offers a “Family Set Menu”. Now, you can enjoy the vast traditional flavours of Sabah with your family under one roof!
