Run, jog or walk with us from 30 July to 12 August 2020!

In line with World Wildlife Day’s theme this year “Sustaining all life on earth”, we’ll be highlighting one of Sabah’s most important biodiversity hub: LAHAD DATU, from its ridge to its reef including Danum Valley and Silam Coast!

In collaboration with Tourism Malaysia and WWF Malaysia, we hope to put positive impacts to our participants and promote the importance of our wildlife and habitat conservation in Lahad Datu.

So prepare your phone and come on board with us on this fun and exciting race to be – completed at your own time and spaces.

Wild Wild Virtual Run “From Ridge to Reef” was originally organised in conjunction with Borneo Nature Festival and World Wildlife Day on March 2020. This event has been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Movement Control Order in Malaysia since 18 March. On 4 May 2020, the government announced Conditional Movement Control Order, where part of economic has been re-opened and certain activities were allowed but it has to be complied with the SOP by the government, which we decided to bring back the event.

“Sustaining all life on Earth” is the theme for this year’s World Wildlife Day. In line with the theme, our partner WWF-Malaysia (Sabah) has worked to identify key messages to convey to the public, not only during the World Wildlife Day 2020 but for the whole year. These include recognising the importance of Sabah’s iconic species – pangolins, Bornean elephants, turtles and sharks – and to understand the threats that they are facing.

Lahad Datu is home to some of Sabah’s most important biodiversity hub from the ridge to the reef including Danum Valley and Silam Coast. However, this district is recognised as a hub for wildlife poaching and trade for years. Through this event, we hope to put an impact on our participants from all ages near and far to be more informed on the importance of wildlife and habitat conservation.

This event is a collaborative effort between WWF-Malaysia and Sri Pelancongan Sabah (a wholly-owned by Sabah Tourism Board) with the support from Sabah Tourism Board, Sabah Forestry Department, Sabah Foundation, Lahad Datu District Office, Tourism Malaysia, and MASwings.

  1. To highlight the serious threats faced by key terrestrial and marine species
  2. To share the importance of WWF-Malaysia’s marine and terrestrial conservation work
  3. To contribute to the continuous conservation effort by WWF-Malaysia’s marine and conservation work.
  4. To highlight the distinct wonders of biodiversity in Sabah.
  5. To encourage the public to keep healthy and awareness on the social distancing to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
